BOXTOPS-Due Oct. 18

Please clip and save boxtops! It is REALLY helpful with counting if you glue them to the form rather than sending in loose boxtops. Click here for a printable version of the form.

Word Study

Each Monday students will meet with me to sort their words. They will be given a color copy of their words to cut up and use in class to practice their sort. Students will also be given a "refrigerator copy" on white paper that can stay at home.
Homework will be completed in the spelling notebook. If your child forgets to bring their notebook home they can complete the assignment on a separate sheet of paper. Click on the link to the left to view descriptions of the nightly assignments. The homework for the week will always be the same.
Wednesday nights the homework is a choice that comes from a monthly Speller's Choice Menu. The menu will be sent home at the beginning of each month and should stay at home.

READING/WRITING

We are working on building our reading and writing communities in school. Students have been able to write about people that are important them and places they have memories of. We are working to stretch those small moments into creative stories.

Reading logs should be completed daily at home. Students are asked to read a total of 60 minutes a week (assuming it is a full week of school). You may break these 60 minutes up any way that works for your family. If you skip a night, just read extra the next night to make up the difference. Please make sure that you track the reading on the log and return the log each Friday (or the last day of the school week). We have a positive reinforcement plan in place for homework completion.

MATH
CHAPTER 1
I would like to commend everyone on making sure the math workbooks come back to school each day, I anticipated this to be a much larger problem than it has been!

Social Studies
Third grade homerooms stay in class for Social Studies. I will be teaching Social Studies. We will start our year talking about the regions of the United States. I'm excited to hear about all the places the students have been able to visit!

 Science
Students will start the year working with magnets.

NOTE: We are a NUT FREE classroom. Please keep this in mind when sending in snacks and birthday/holiday treats, we want to keep our classroom a safe environment for every student. DUNKIN DONUTS IS NOT A SAFE SNACK TO SEND Please provide snack for your child on a daily basis throughout the year. It is also fine for them to have a bottle of water to drink throughout the day.

General Homework Information:
  • Homework will usually be assigned M-TH in both Spelling and Math.
  • Math homework will be carefully assigned to ensure that students are practicing skills that have been covered in class.
  • Use the homework link on this webpage to check on daily assignments. The homework page is updated throughout the week and I will send e-alerts whenever I update or make changes.
  • From time to time we all have situations at home which may interfere with homework completion. If this should happen, please send an email or a note if extended time is needed. I'd also like to be informed if the total homework for the night is taking your child, as an average, more than 40 minutes to complete.
